When you are wearing an ihram, you cannot use any perfume on the body or the white cloth. Men have to wear these clothes, but women can wear any with intention.

Then to start the journey, you have to pray two raka’at of Salah as it is the first step of starting your umrah.

If you are flying from a different destination, you have to start with ihram as you will be crossing the “Miqat.”

As for the “miqat”, there are different destination boundaries that pilgrims have to pass while traveling towards the Makkah. The “Miqat” points are:

  • For the pilgrims coming from Madinah have to pass Dhu’l Hulaifah.
  • The pilgrims coming from Egypt, Sudan or Morocco have to cross the Miqat point Al- Juhfah.
  • Qarn- al manazil is the Miqat point for the pilgrims for Taif or najd.
  • For Pakistan, Yemen and Indian pilgrims, the Miqat point is Yalamlam.
  • And lastly Iraqi pilgrims have to pass Dhat irq point to reach Makkah for umrah.

Step 3:

“لَبَّيْكَ ٱللَّٰهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ ٱلْحَمْدَ وَٱلنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَٱلْمُلْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ”

“Here I am O Allah, here I am. Here I am. You have no partners (other gods). To You alone is all praise and all excellence, and to You is all sovereignty. There is no partner to You.”

This is the Du’a that every pilgrim has to repeat after praying the Talbiyah prayer before reaching Makkah.

Step 4

When you are in the holy mosque, you have to perform Tawaf. Tawaf means you have to circle around the Kaba for 7 times counterclockwise.

The starting and the endpoint of Tawaf is the black stone Hajre Aswad. During Tawaf you have to do different Dhikr. When you are near the black stone, you have to recite

“ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الآخرة حسنة وقنا عذاب النار”

“Rabina Atina Fid-Dunya Hasanatan Wa Fil Akhirati Hasanatan Waqina Adhaban-Nar”

When you are in front of the black stone, you have to raise your hands and say “Allahu Akbar”

After finishing the Tawaf, you have to pray two Rakat salah. You can pray in front of the Makam Ibrahim – the stone on which prophet Ibrahim stood while building the Kaba.

Step 5

After finishing tawaf, you have to perform Sa’I where you have to walk back and forth seven times between the two hills – Safa and Marwa.

During walking between the hills, you can recite any surah, du’a and dhikir.
